Sidewalks, Walkways & Flatwork
Safe, attractive walkways that connect your property and enhance curb appeal.

Why Quality Walkways Matter
Your walkways do more than just connect point A to point B. They guide visitors safely to your door, protect your landscaping from foot traffic, and contribute significantly to your home curb appeal. A well-designed walkway system makes your property more functional and more attractive at the same time.
Concrete works perfectly for sidewalks and walkways because it handles constant foot traffic without wearing out. Unlike gravel that scatters or pavers that shift, concrete stays put and stays level. You will not trip over uneven surfaces or track loose materials into your home. The surface drains well, so you avoid puddles and slippery spots after rain.
Here is what quality concrete walkways provide:
- Safe, level surfaces that prevent trips and falls
- Clear paths that protect your lawn and landscaping
- Low maintenance compared to other walkway options
- ADA-compliant access when properly designed
- Increased property value and street appeal
- Customizable width and shape to fit your needs
Types of Flatwork We Install
Front Entry Walkways
Your front walkway creates the first impression visitors get of your home. We design these walkways to balance functionality with aesthetics. The path should be wide enough for two people to walk comfortably side by side, which typically means at least four feet wide. We create proper slope for drainage while keeping the grade gentle enough for safe walking. We can add curves, borders, or decorative stamped patterns to enhance your home style.
Backyard Pathways
Pathways through your yard let you access different areas without trampling your grass or garden. These can connect your patio to a shed, link your back door to your garage, or wind through your landscaping. Backyard paths can be narrower than front walkways since they usually see less traffic. We shape them to work around trees, gardens, and other features you want to preserve.
Public Sidewalks
If you need to install or replace the public sidewalk in front of your property, we handle all the requirements. We know local codes for sidewalk width, thickness, and specifications. We obtain necessary permits, meet ADA requirements for slope and surface, and coordinate with municipal inspectors. We make sure your sidewalk matches existing sections and meets all regulations so you avoid problems down the road.
General Flatwork
Flatwork includes any horizontal concrete surface that is not specifically a driveway, patio, or foundation. This category covers parking pads, equipment pads for HVAC units or generators, trash enclosures, dog runs, and utility areas. Each application has specific requirements for thickness, reinforcement, and finish. We size and build your flatwork correctly for its intended use, whether that means supporting heavy equipment or providing a clean surface for outdoor activities.
Design and Installation Process
Good walkway design considers how you actually use your property. We discuss your traffic patterns, identify problem areas where people currently walk, and plan paths that follow natural movement. Fighting against established traffic patterns just means people will cut across your lawn instead of using the walkway. We work with your property layout and usage habits rather than against them.
Width matters more than most people think. A 36-inch-wide walkway works for a single person but feels cramped when two people walk together. We recommend at least 48 inches for main walkways and can go wider for high-traffic areas or to create a more impressive entrance. Narrow utility paths can be 30 inches wide since they typically see single-file traffic.
We grade walkways carefully to prevent water from pooling while keeping slopes gentle enough for safe walking. Generally, we aim for about a quarter inch of slope per foot, which drains well without being noticeable. We also consider where water will go when it runs off your walkway so it does not create new problems elsewhere on your property.
Installation follows the same careful preparation process we use for all our concrete work. We excavate to proper depth, install and compact a stable base, set forms to define edges, place reinforcement, pour and finish the concrete, and cut control joints to manage cracking. We can add a broom finish for traction, create smooth surfaces for a modern look, or incorporate decorative elements to match your home style. The thickness depends on the walkway purpose, but most residential walkways are four inches thick.
